Genetic diagnosis

PGT-A & PGT-M Genetic Testing

PGT screens embryos before transfer: PGT-A (chromosomes) and PGT-M (single-gene). In Northern Cyprus it is offered for medical indication.

Important information

Elective (preference-based) sex selection is not performed. Genetic procedures are limited to medically indicated PGT.

What is PGT?

PGT analyses cells from IVF embryos so suitable embryos can be selected for transfer. After stimulation, retrieval and fertilization, biopsy may be planned at blastocyst stage.

PGT-A looks at chromosome number. PGT-M targets known single-gene disease. The right test is chosen with genetic counselling and clinical history.

Who may be offered PGT?

  • Advanced maternal age and higher aneuploidy risk
  • Repeated IVF or implantation failure
  • Recurrent pregnancy loss
  • Known single-gene disease / carrier status (PGT-M)
  • Balanced translocation or structural chromosome rearrangement

IVF with PGT

  1. 01

    IVF/ICSI cycle

Standard stimulation and retrieval; fertilization and culture.

  2. 02

    Embryo biopsy

Trophectoderm sample at a suitable stage; the embryo can be vitrified.

  3. 03

    Genetic analysis

The sample is examined; the report is shared with the clinical team.

  4. 04

    Selected transfer

A suitable embryo is thawed and transferred after endometrial preparation.

Limits and counselling

PGT can improve selection; not every embryo is biopsy-suitable, mosaicism needs clinical interpretation, and the test is not a healthy-baby guarantee.

The decision is taken with Dr Verda Özkent Tunçbilek within medical and ethical bounds. Ask for a free consultation.
